Does the program support solar charging?
Currently, the Eversource MA Managed Charging program is not designed to integrate directly with home solar systems, inverters, or utilize your home charger's solar charging capabilities.
Why isn’t solar part of the program structure yet?
To manage the grid effectively, our software needs to track energy flow. At this time, we have no technical means to distinguish between energy delivered from your solar panels and energy drawn from the grid network. Because the program's primary goal is to reduce grid strain during "Peak" hours, we must prioritize grid-based data.
How can I still use my solar energy?
We know maximizing your "green" charging is important!
If you wish to use your solar production to charge your EV, we recommend doing so during off-peak hours only.
Official Off-Peak Hours
Daily: 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (7 days a week)
Public Holidays: Always considered off-peak
ONLY for participants on "Scheduled Charging Tier".
To ensure your vehicle utilizes your solar energy without interference from the program’s smart scheduling:
Use the Override Feature: Activating an "Override" or "Boost" in your app will temporarily suspend our automated scheduling. This allows your EV to pull power directly from your home system (and your solar panels).
BOTH TIERS Time Your Charge: For the best results, try to finish any solar charging sessions before the Peak period begins (1:00 p.m.)
Future Updates
Should solar smart charging be enabled and added to the program in the future, we will be sure to communicate this update through a campaign email.
