The Advanced Tier is designed for users who want to maximize their incentives by letting our software optimize their charging for a cleaner, more efficient grid.
Advanced Tier: Managed Charging
How it works: ev.energy acts as both your "Data Hub" and your active controller.
Our software communicates with the Eversource grid to automatically schedule your charging for the most optimal times.
Required Action: You must deactivate and delete any existing charging schedules in your vehicle’s infotainment system or your charger’s manufacturer app.
If these external schedules remain active, they will conflict with our software and might lead to failed charges.
What to expect: It is perfectly normal for your vehicle to stop charging a few minutes after you plug it in.
This is a sign that the ev.energy "Smart Mode" has successfully taken control and has paused the session to wait for a more grid-friendly time.
Understanding "Smart Mode"
Think of Smart Mode as your "set it and forget it" tool. You do not need to set a traditional start or stop time. Instead:
Enable Smart Mode: Ensure this is toggled "ON" in the app.
Set Your "Ready By" Time: Simply tell us when you need your car ready (e.g., 7:00 AM for your morning commute).
Automated Forecasting: ev.energy uses Eversource grid data to forecast the best window to deliver your energy while meeting your "Ready By" deadline.
How to Earn Your Monthly $10 Incentive
To qualify for the higher $10 monthly incentive, you must allow the ev.energy app to manage your charging sessions. While you always have the power to override the system, doing so too frequently will impact your eligibility.
Important: The Override Rule
If you override "Smart Mode" more than twice per month for sessions lasting longer than 15 minutes each, you will be disqualified from that month's $10 incentive. Next month, you start fresh, no permanent penalty.
How to Override (When Necessary)
We understand that sometimes you need an immediate charge (e.g., for unexpected travel or pre-heating your car in winter). There are two ways to do this:
The "Boost" Button (Recommended for Temporary Needs):
Tap "Boost" once on your dashboard to start an instant charge.
Why it’s better: Once you unplug, the app’s "muscle memory" stays intact.
The next time you plug in, it will automatically default back to Smart Mode to protect your incentives.
Disabling Smart Charging (Permanent Override):
You can turn off Smart Charging in the "Smart" tab.
The Risk: This permanently stops the app from managing your charges.
It also erases the app's "muscle memory," meaning every future session will be a manual override unless you manually re-enable Smart Mode.
This significantly increases the risk of losing your monthly $10.
Pro Tip: Use the Boost button for one-off needs like pre-conditioning your car on a cold morning. This ensures you get the charge you need without accidentally leaving your "Smart Mode" turned off for the rest of the month.
