Why Public Charging Costs Aren't Tracked

The ev.energy app is designed specifically as a domestic (home) smart charging tool.

Its primary purpose is to help you manage your home energy use in alignment with the Eversource Managed Charging program.

Focusing on Your Home Connection

The Eversource program is built to optimize the grid by managing at-home charging sessions.

Because the program's incentives are tied to your residential utility connection, the app is not configured to track or calculate costs for charging sessions that occur away from your primary home location.

Scenario: Charging at Work or Public Stations

If you plug in at a supermarket, your office, or a public fast-charger (like a Tesla Supercharger) during peak hours, you do not need to worry.

* No Penalty: These away-from-home sessions will not count against your monthly incentive eligibility.

  • No Cost Data: While your enrolled EV may still "check in" and show that a charge occurred, the app will not display an estimated cost for these sessions.
